Functionalist Bookcase by Robert Slezák, 1930s Czechoslovakia, Modernist Wooden Storage Cabinet Shelving Unit
This functionalist bookcase or display cabinet was produced during the 1930s–1940s by Robert Slezák in Bystřice pod Hostýnem, Czechoslovakia. It represents the principles of Czechoslovak modernism influenced by Bauhaus design and functionalist architecture.
The piece combines a chrome-plated steel base with a veneered plywood body in its original warm-toned finish. The upper section is fitted with clear glass panels, while the interior is divided into practical storage sections. The original chrome elements are well preserved and retain their shine.
The bookcase is part of a complete functionalist furniture set from a single interior. It remains in very good original condition, with no major defects, and is suitable for books, glassware, or display objects.
